AI plays important role in NWN-InterVision IT services merger deal
NWN Corporation recently completed its acquisition of InterVision Systems, which resulted in the union of two major managed service providers with a combined revenue exceeding $1 billion. This merger not only promises potential growth through enhanced AI services but also offers opportunities for cross-selling.
The announcement of this transaction on June 2 is the latest in a series of IT services mergers and acquisitions that emphasize the significance of AI. Earlier this year, World Wide Technology (WWT) finalized its $1.3 billion acquisition of the Toronto-based cloud consulting firm Softchoice, aiming to accelerate AI adoption on a broader scale. In a similar vein, CDW, an IT solutions provider, acquired Mission Cloud Services in December 2024, citing its cloud and AI technology expertise as pivotal in the deal.
Based in Boston, NWN specializes in communicative, collaborative, and customer experience services, while InterVision, headquartered in Chesterfield, MO, specializes in generative AI (GenAI) services and technical certifications. InterVision offers workshops and assessment services centered around GenAI, including platforms such as Microsoft Copilot and Amazon Bedrock. Last month, InterVision obtained the AWS GenAI Competency, an accreditation recognizing partners who meet specific technical and business prerequisites in GenAI services.
NWN’s plan includes incorporating InterVision’s AI services into its existing service lines, which primarily focus on communications, collaboration, and customer experience. Jim Sullivan, NWN’s CEO, highlighted InterVision’s expertise in providing generative AI solutions, particularly in the cloud domain, such as AWS and AWS Connect. Additionally, the merger will enable NWN to offer a broader range of services, given that both companies already had AI, machine learning, and GenAI offerings.
The combined entity is well-positioned to tap into the growing demand for CX and virtual agents. Sullivan underscored the potential impact on NWN’s Managed Devices suite through enhanced customer experience capabilities. Martinwolf, an M&A advisory firm focusing on IT services, noted the significance of AI in propelling future expansion for the partnered companies.
Moreover, integrating AI services into NWN’s portfolio sets the stage for revenue growth. The merger also presents opportunities for cross-selling across NWN’s customer base of approximately 5,000 clients and InterVision’s portfolio of around 1,600 clients. With a comprehensive suite of services including DaaS, virtual collaboration, unified communications, and GenAI services, the combined entity is poised to serve a diverse array of industries, including education, finance, healthcare, and the public sector.
The NWN-InterVision acquisition underscores the importance of AI in driving growth and innovation in the managed services domain, paving the way for enhanced services and expanded market reach.
