DLA Piper adds new corporate, M&A, energy partner to team in New Zealand

Becoming a new partner at DLA Piper in their Auckland office, Rob Macredie has joined the corporate team with a specialization in energy transition projects, energy M&A, commercial structuring, and significant transactions. With a focus on assisting clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors, Macredie brings to the firm a strong understanding of New Zealand’s market and regulatory landscape. His addition to the team was met with enthusiasm by Natasha Luther-Jones, DLA Piper’s global co-chairperson of energy, who expressed the firm’s delight in having Rob on board to support clients navigating the transition to sustainable infrastructure and future-focused energy models.

Rob Macredie’s expertise extends to power purchase agreements (PPAs), significant project acquisitions, and high-profile renewable developments. Notably, he provided counsel to a trans-Tasman joint venture on procuring a series of solar projects to strengthen the business’s renewable asset portfolio, as well as assisted a solar developer with their capital raise for a handful of solar projects. Described as a trusted adviser by clients, Macredie is commended for his comprehensive understanding spanning from strategic governance to project execution.

Having garnered experience working in Australia and the UK, Macredie is well-versed in cross-border matters alongside his corporate and commercial law background that equips him to handle M&A, corporate governance, joint ventures, private capital, and capital raisings. He holds credentials as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, a solicitor registered with the Law Society of New South Wales, and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, completing his LLB from the University of Auckland. His appointment bolsters DLA Piper’s cross-border capabilities and reinforces their presence in the regional landscape, enhancing the firm’s ability to meet their clients’ legal needs effectively.

Receiving accolades from Laura Scampion, DLA Piper’s New Zealand managing partner, Macredie’s breadth of experience across corporate, projects, and complex energy matters is highly respected. The increase in clients seeking legal aid in New Zealand’s energy, infrastructure, and private capital sectors has prompted a greater need for legal support, which Macredie’s appointment addresses. DLA Piper aims to aid clients in the progression, investment, and execution of clean energy projects and infrastructure with Macredie’s addition to their team.
