TAAG Angola receives its first Dreamliner aircraft
Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira expressed the significance of this new addition, stating that the 787-9 Dreamliner delivery represents a crucial step in their goal to update their fleet and enhance connectivity between Angola and the global aviation market. The upcoming operations with the Dreamliner will boost efficiency, passenger satisfaction, and fuel economy, ensuring that TAAG remains competitive internationally.
The decision to choose the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was driven by its reputation as one of the most efficient aircraft globally. Crafted with a focus on efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced passenger comfort, the Dreamliner boasts several advantages, including 25% lower fuel consumption, increased range for non-stop long-haul flights, enhanced passenger comfort with larger windows and improved cabin pressure, quieter engines to minimize noise pollution, and the use of advanced composite materials for lighter weight and optimized fuel consumption.
Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales to Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek, highlighted the longstanding partnership between Boeing and TAAG, emphasizing the alignment of the 787 Dreamliner with TAAG’s growth plan due to its unparalleled fuel efficiency, range, and comfort. This collaboration with Boeing has been instrumental in facilitating TAAG’s fleet modernization and expansion efforts.
The introduction of the Dreamliner will enable TAAG to launch direct flights to North America for the first time, while also adding new destinations in major European cities such as London, Paris, and Lisbon. Additionally, new routes to Asian markets, including China and the Middle East, are on the horizon. Strengthening their African network with improved connections to key destinations like Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi will position TAAG as a significant player in the regional aviation sector, boosting tourism and business travel to and from Angola.
In alignment with Boeing’s long-term forecast for Africa’s aviation sector, which projects a demand for 1,170 new airplanes within the next 20 years, TAAG’s fleet modernization program and collaboration with Boeing are strategic moves to capitalize on this growth trajectory and remain competitive in the market. TAAG’s commitment to environmentally-friendly practices is evident through their collaboration with Boeing to purchase SAF credits for carbon-emission reduction, underscoring their role in promoting sustainability within the aviation industry.
Established in 1938, TAAG Angola Airlines has a rich legacy as Angola’s national carrier, connecting the country to the rest of the world for over 80 years. With a focus on fleet modernization, expansion of international routes, and enhancement of passenger services, TAAG is poised to cement Luanda as a prominent hub for African aviation services.
