Class-action lawsuit filed against sheriff of Fulton County Jail
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Fulton County Jail, the chief jailer, and Sheriff Pat Labat by attorneys representing individuals who have been harmed or killed while at the facility. Attorney Michael Harper stated that they are seeking declarative relief from a federal judge to address the alleged unconstitutional treatment of detainees at the jail.
Among the lead plaintiffs is Shannon Jackson, who was reportedly stabbed during the YSL trial while in jail, as well as another detainee who suffered significant scarring from a bed bug infection. The injuries were described as so severe that images had to be blurred for television broadcasts. Additionally, a separate lawsuit was filed for Dayvion Blake’s estate after he was killed by another detainee at the jail last year.
